Tom Kaak nicknamed Adolfo, went abroad on a free transfer to Darlington in the summer of 2000. However, Kaak was in his first season hit with a couple of injuries which restricted his chances somewhat. But when he did play, he was clearly making progress, and was improving with every game. This meant that it was a complete shock to most fans when it was announced that the striker had been allowed to return to Holland in November 2000. Soon he returned in Britain with signing for Scottish Second Division side Clydebank. He scored on his debut for the Bankies, and made one further appearance before deciding that he was too good for that standard of football. Kaak then returned back to Holland amateurfootball after failing to find a suited professional club.

In January 2001, he signed for IJsselmeervogels and immediately became the top scorer that season in the Dutch Third division (amateurlevel).
