| Collins John was born in Liberia but escaped soon to the Netherlands because of the civil war. He started playing football at the amateurclub of Nijverdal when his talents were spotted by scouts of FC Twente. After playing in the youth academy of the club he made his professional debut on November 2002.
After two seasons he left FC Twente in the January 2004 transfer window as its leading scorer and completed a dream move to the Premiership. He made some impressive appearances showing his talent. Also during his first Fulham season he was called up for the Dutch national team where he won two caps so far. In his third season, Collins was Fulham’s top scorer for 2005-06 with 12 goals. During the first half of 2007-08, John was send on loan to Leicester City for three months. In January 2008, he joined Watford on loan for the rest of the season. He featured just three times in the line-up of Watford and returned earlier home because of an injury in April. At the end of the summer transfer window Dutch side NEC Nijmegen surprised with the signing of John. He returned home for one season on another loan deal from Fulham until June 2009. John just made five appearances for the Dutch club because of injuries. On March 3 both sides decided to split up and John returned to England. His Fulham contract expired in June 2009. In July 2009 Belgium club KSV Roeselare announced the signing of the Dutch international on a 2-year contract from a free transfer. However within five months, the contract was cancelled due personal reasons. He played 11 matches for the Belgian club but failed to score. On March 12 2010, the Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced that it has signed the 24-year old Dutch forward Collins John. The former Fulham striker has been on trial with the club since February 4 and joins the Fire as a free agent for the 2010 season. | |
