In 2000 he suffered a bad and long-term injury but he fought back and recovered. Still recovering, Manchester United wanted to sign the prolific forward. He played from 2001 until 2006 in Manchester scoring an impressive 150 goals.
Before the end of the 2005-06 season, Real Madrid agreed to sign Van the Man on a three-year contract. At Manchester Van Nistelrooy fell out with manager Ferguson and found himself out of favour at the end of last season and there were also reports that he had a disagreement with United winger Cristiano Ronaldo. After winning the top scorer title in the Netherlands and England, he repeated in Spain. At Real Madrid he scored 53 goals in his first two seasons. Van Nistelrooy his contract was expiring in June 2010 and because of hard competition due new signings there was no future for the Dutchman. In January 2010 he moved to Germany to sign a 1,5 year contract at HSV. Madrid directors offered him a free transfer because of his good performances during his stay at Real. | |
