Harrie Gommans signed in November 2004 a 3,5-year contract at Westerlo. In his short Belgian stay, he played just five times as substitute. He returned home already in the summer of 2005 to join MVV.

One successful season at Vitesse Arnhem was succeeded by a contract at Roda JC Kerkrade where he signed a 4-year contract in August 2008.

After new Roda coach Harm van Veldhoven told him he was allowed to leave in the January 2009 transfer window, Gommans decided to accept the loan offer from Belgium side K.S.V. Roeselare until the end of the season. Unfortunately, already after two matches he suffered a bad injury that held him off the pitch for the rest of the season. In June 2009, he returned from his loan-transfer, back home at Roda JC.

In August 2010 Roda and Gommans cancelled their contract that was ending in 2012. Gommans got no chances in the upcoming season and he was available on a free transfer. Just before the closing of the transfer market, Gommans returned to Belgium signing a 1-year contract at second division club Waasland-Beveren.

His start was successful, but after an injury during mid-season, he failed to make impact in the second half of the season. In April 2011 both decided to cancel the contract in mutual consent. Gommans found himself a new club in July 2011. He signed a 2-year contract at Fortuna Sittard until 2013.
