Jan Veenhof played until June 1998 in the Netherlands before moving abroad. He went to Japan to play for NTT Kanto (Omiya Ardija) where fellow Dutchman Pim Verbeek was the coach. Veenhof returned home in August 2001 where he signed for FC Den Bosch. His first season at Den Bosch was not so succesful and he decided to search for a new adventure.

In the summer of 2002 he surprised everyone with signing a 5 months deal at the Albanian club SK Tirana. He was the first Dutch player in the Albanian football competition. After winning the Albanian Supercup, Veenhof moved to Canada for the 2003 season.

Jan Veenhof returned home in October 2003 to play his final two professional seasons at BV Veendam. He has ended his professional career in Veendam in June 2005.
