Frank de Boer is a product of the Ajax youth academy and made also his first team debut at the club. The solid defender moved abroad in 1999 to Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

De Boer played until 2003 in Spain and continued his foreign career in Turkey. He signed a contract until 2005 at the Galatasaray club from Istanbul. However, after a disappointing first half of the season, he moved to the club from his twinbrother Ronald in Scotland.

June 2004, De Boer went to play for a final season in Qatar together with Ronald. He retired of professional football to start courses for a coaching career at his former club Ajax. He did experience in different roles in the youth academy and also as part-time assistant manager at the Dutch national team.

In December 2010 he started the care taker role as head coach of AFC Ajax but after winning the league title, directors decided to continue with De Boer and he managed also in the 2011-12 season to win the title for the second time in row.
