Eindhoven born Philip Cocu started his professional career at AZ in 1988 and moved to Vitesse in 1990 and PSV in 1995. He went abroad in 1998 to sign for Spanish giants Barcelona. Six successful seasons in Spain lead him back home. Cocu returned to the Netherlands after EURO2004 to sign for his former club PSV for two seasons until 2006.

He extended his successful return with another season until June 2007. When his contract expired, Cocu was looking for an adventure that he found in Abu Dhabi where he signed for one year.

Cocu is now retired from professional football and went on a coaching course. He returned to the club of his home town, PSV Eindhoven, to practice coaching. In 2008 he started as youth coach and for a few months in the 2011-12 season first team caretaker of the club. Next to his PSV job, he also was assistant manager during the Bert van Marwijk period at the Dutch national team. Since the start 2013-14 season, Philip Cocu is the head coach of the first team of PSV Eindhoven.
