Erwin Koeman was Dutch Player of the Year in 1987 and 1988. He has won with Belgian club KV Mechelen the Cup Winners Cup and became European Champions with The Netherlands in 1988.

Since 1998, Erwin Koeman started working at PSV (assistant-manager) and RKC Waalwijk (manager). He succeeded Ruud Gullit at Feyenoord as manager in 2005. In May 2007 he decided to quit the club after a season full of deceptions. In 2010 he was for a short period the national team coach of Hungary. For the 2011-12 season, Erwin Koeman was appointed as coach of FC Utrecht. In October 2011 he decided to leave the club after problems with communication and transfers during his Utrecht period.

Erwin Koeman is the oldest son of Martin Koeman who also played professional football. The youngest son is Ronald Koeman who was also a successful professional player who continued his career as manager.
