Feyenoord youth product Ellery Cairo moved abroad in 2003 when he joined SC Freiburg. After two good seasons, he moved to the club of the German capital, Hertha Berlin where he also played for two seasons.

In summer 2007, Cairo his contract was not extended in Berlin, so he was able to join Coventry City on a free transfer. He signed a one-year contract in June 2007.

When his contract at Coventry expired he returned home and signed a 2-year contract at NAC Breda until 2010.

The expiring contract was not extended and he went on trial at Heracles Almelo in September 2010. the trial resulted in a contract for the rest of the 2010-11 season. At the end of the season, the club decided not to extend the contract and he moved to AGOVV on a 1-year contract after a successful trial.

In July 2012 when his AGOVV contract expired, he moved to the Dutch Topklasse league to play for DETO in the 2012-13 season. Cairo could not prevent the relegation of the club to the Hoofdklasse amateurs and was injured almost the whole season.
