After two years abroad with Swedish side Djurgårdens IF Den Ouden returned home in August 2004 to play for ADO Den Haag. He moved to Tilburg in August 2006 on a 1-year contract. That contract expired in June 2007 and Den Ouden was searching for a new club.

In July, he announced a return to his former club Excelsior where he signed for two years.

Because of relegation of Excelsior, he was able to leave the club on a free transfer after one season. Den Ouden has joined just promoted de Graafschap on a 2-year deal until 2010.

Unfortunately De Graafschap also relegated and Den Ouden became a free agent.

In June 2009 Van Ouden signed a contract with FC Valleta, where he joined fellow Dutchmen Jordi Cruijff and Ton Caanen. With just one goal in five matches, Den Ouden his career was disappointing and both decided to cancel the contract by mutual consent in November 2009.

Den Ouden moved to the USA to play for the new Dutch-American pro club Dayton Dutch Lions FC. The matches were played in May to July 2010 and Den Ouden decided to hang up his boots after his American experience.
