Arnold Bruggink started his career at the youth academy of FC Twente. Making his début in 1994, he moved four seasons later to PSV. His period at PSV was the most successful in his career winning three league titles and twice the cup. In the 1999-2000 season the forward scored an impressive 19 goals and Bruggink was awarded the Dutch Talent of the Season trophy.

In 2003, he moved abroad. Bruggink signed a 3-year contract until 2006 at the Spanish island club of Mallorca. After his third coach at the club had no Bruggink in his plans, he returned to the Netherlands in August 2004. He joined SC Heerenveen.

In 2006, Bruggink went abroad again, signing a 3-year contract for Hannover 96 until 2009. In May 2009 Hannover decided to extend Bruggink his contract with one year. If he played twenty or more matches during the 2009-10 campaign the contract was automatically extended with another year. Although he succeeded, Bruggink has not used the option and went on a free transfer in July 2010.

In October 2010, he joined his old club FC Twente after training a while to regain his fitness. He joined the League champions of 2009-10 until the end of the season. Twente narrowly missed their second championship in a row. Bruggink was used as substitute but played just six times. At the end of the season he decided to hang up his boots.
