Left-winger Arjen Robben was developed in the youth academy of FC Groningen. After making his debut in the first selection, many clubs were interested to sign the player. Dutch giants PSV signed the attacking midfielder after two seasons of successful play in Groningen. A record fee of almost 4M€ was send to Groningen to sign the player. Robben continued his career and made also international fame.

Already after two seasons Eindhoven, Robben signed a 5-year contract for Chelsea for 18,1M€ in May 2004. He has left Chelsea in August 2007 to sign for a record fee of 36M€ at Real Madrid.

In the 2009 summer window Robben continued his big transfer move story. The Dutch international winger joined Dutch coach Louis van Gaal at FC Bayern for a 25M€ transfer fee on a 4-year contract. In May 2012, the contract was extended until 2015 and later on until 2019.

After a long period of speculation, he finally announced his retirement for professional football. Arjen Robben has played for more than 200 matches in the Bundesliga and scored almost 100 goals. Robben scored his final goal in the competition match against Frankfurt on 18 May 2019. His final appearance for Bayern was a week later when he and his club were winning the German Cup (against Leipzig). In October 2017 as captain he played his last match for the Dutch national team.

In the 2020-21 season, he returned to the pitch after months of training at his former club FC Groningen. He managed to play a few competition matches but decided to hang up his boots finally at the end of the season.
