Roel Brouwers enjoyed the Roda youth academy. He made his début in the 2001-02 season. The defender went abroad in 2005 when he played on loan at Paderborn. At the end of the season, the club was keen to sign the player on a permanent deal. He signed until 2009. His good performances were attracting other German clubs. He moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in June 2007 to sign a 3-year contract at the club at that moment coached by Dutchman Jos Luhukay.
His successful stay was confirmed with contract extension until 2012 at December 2009. In November 2011 he extended for another time his contract. The solid defender was one of the key-players in the German team. Brouwers stayed in Germany until June 2016. He has played for 9 season for the club but was in his final season just featuring 8 times in the Bundesliga. When his contract expired, Brouwers returned to the club he was educated. Roda JC signed their old talent on a 2-year deal with opportunities to continue his career at the club in an other role. In September 2016 he already decided to retire from his professional player career. |
