Dutch international defender André Ooijer left PSV Eindhoven for Blackburn Rovers in August 2006. Ooijer signed a two-year deal with the option of adding a third year for a reported fee of £2million.

His first season with Rovers was cruelly cut short when the Dutchman sustained a broken leg in January 2007.

But Ooijer quickly bounced back and his displays in the 2007-08 campaign saw the club take up the option of a further year of the Dutch international, extending his contract until the summer of 2009

At the end of his contract Andre Ooijer returned to his former club PSV Eindhoven after spending three years abroad. He signed a 1-year contract.

André Ooijer was selected for the national team and played during the Worldcup 2010 in South-Africa. However his contract was not extended at the end of June 2010.

A surprising move to PSV rivals Ajax was the result where the experienced defender signed a 1-year contract. Also under new coach Frank de Boer, Ooijer was getting playtime during the second half of the 2010-11 season. In April 2010 the club announced an extension for another season until June 2012. Andre Ooijer retired from professional football at the end of the 2011-12 season after winning the Dutch championship for the second time in row with Ajax.
