After a successful Euro U21 Championships in 2007, inning the Golden Boot for his four goals in five games, Maceo Rigters went abroad and signed a 4-year contract at Blackburn Rovers.

His first season at the club has been one of frustration. Unable to force his way into the first team, Maceo eventually moved on loan to Norwich towards the end of the campaign, but that was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

In August 2008 the Dutchman went on another loan deal for the 2008-09 season to Barnsley.

Rigters returned to Blackburn after in April 2009. His future at the Rovers remained unsure. He went on trial at several clubs but that resulted in no contract. In January 2010 he even played a match for the first team of Blackburn. August 2010 solved his unsure future going for a season-loan back home to Willem II for the remaining season of his Rovers contract.

In June 2011 his contract was expired and he was available as free agent. Rigters was signed during the final days of the seasonís transfer window by Australian outfit Gold Coast United. The 2011-12 season ended abruptly for his club. The FA revoked the licence and Rigters was released from his contract. Rigters hang up his boots for his retirement of professional football.
