At the end of the 2010-11 season Van Dijk won the Golden Boot as he finished with 17 for the season. The club also won the A-league Championship.

On 19 July 2010, it was reported that Van Dijk was to declare for Indonesia, the country of origin of one of his grandparents. He likes to represent the Indonesian national football team. However Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship and for a long time Van Dijk refused to give up his Dutch nationality only to become an international player. At the end of 2012 he changed his mind and restarted the naturalization process. On 4 March 2013, he was called up for the Indonesian national team for the first time, to play in the 2015 Asia Cup Qualification.

Sergio van Dijk became the topscorer of Persib in the 2012-13 season scoring 21 goals. in January 2014 he joined Iranian club Sepahan for the rest of the 2013-14 season in Iran. At the end of his contract he moved to Thailand to play for Suphanburi FC.

In January 2016 Van Dijk returned to his former club Adelaide United. With Adelaide United Van Dijk will compete in the 2016 AFC Champions League campaign. After finishing their campaign, he rejoined his former club Persib Bandung to play in the 2016 Indonesia Soccer Championship A. Van Dijk was also part of the team in the new 2017 Liga 1 competition.

At the end of the 2017 season, the 35-year old forward returned to the Netherlands and retired from his (semi-) professional football adventure. Van Dijk went playing for the amateurs of VV Pelikaan S in January 2018.
