Making his début at Vitesse Arnhem, Fred Benson moved after four seasons Arnhem to Waalwijk. He signed a contract until 2011. His first two seasons were successful for the Holland U21 international. In the 2009-10 season, the club send him on loan to China for an offer they could not refuse. Benson was loaned out to Shandong Luneng Taishan for the rest of the 2009-10 season. His 2010-11 season at RKC Waalwijk was a successful one again, resulting in a promotion to the Eredivisie. Benson his contract was expiring but the striker wants to take a new adventure abroad and did not extend his contract.

In July 2011 he announced another signing abroad. Benson signed a 2-year contract at Polish club Lechia Gdansk until 2013. In January 2012 he was released from his contract. In summer 2012 transfer window he returned home signing a 2-year contract at Eredivisie newcomers PEC Zwolle until June 2014.

His contract was not extended and he has left the club looking a new adventure. Benson earned himself a contract for two seasons at Moldovian champions Sheriff Tiraspol until June 2016. In mid-season 2014-15 he changed Moldovia for Romania and signed for Rapid Bucharest for the rest of the season. Benson signed a one-year contract at IJsselmeervogels in September 2015. One year later Benson returned to his former club RKC Waalwijk on an amateur contract. Since July 2017 he was available on a free transfer. In January 2018 he joined third tier club ASV De Dijk until June 2018.
