Urby Emanuelson signed a 3,5 year contract at Italian giants AC Milan in January 2011. The contract of the Ajax youth academy product expired in summer 2011, but the Amsterdam club received around the 1,7M euro for the talented multifunctional Dutch international.

In January 2013 he moved to England to play for Fulham under coach and Dutchman Martin Jol. Emanuelson joined the club on a loan deal until the end of the 2012-13 season. His contract at Milan was not extended in summer 2014 and he moved to AS Roma on a one year deal. In January 2015, he moved to Atalanta Bergamo for the rest of the season. Emanuelson was available on a free transfer after expiration of his contract.

In January 2016, he joined Italian side Hellas Verona for the second part of the season. In summer 2016 he became available on a free transfer.

In September 2016, Emanuelson did find another club when he signed a one-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday, a Championship club. After expiration he returned home to sign a one-year deal at FC Utrecht until June 2018 which was later on extended with another season.
