At the end of January 2011, Tim van der Meulen joined Dundee United until the rest of the 2010-11 season. The young defender is a product from the Ajax youth academy and played in 2009-10 a season on loan at HFC Haarlem. His contract was not renewed for the 2011-12 season.

After a trial at Roda JC, Van der Meulen made another move abroad by signing for the Reserves of Bayern München in Germany. The team is coached by Dutchman Andries Jonker.

The defender played a successful 2011-12 season in Germany. At the end of the season he returned home to sign a 3-year contract at de Graafschap until 2015. Van der Meulen was released from his contract in February 2014 because of minimal playing chances.

For the 2014-15 season he is under contract at Topklasse club Sparta Nijkerk who play in the third tier. His contract was renewed for the 2015-16 season, but in September 2015 the contract of Van der Meulen at Sparta Nijkerk was terminated with a move to Eerste Divisie club Almere City FC.

At the end of the 2015-16 season Timothy van der Meulen left Almere City and searched for a new opportunity. He is currently under contract at German Regional Liga side FC 08 Homburg until the end of the 2016-17 season. In summer 2017 he returned home signing for FC Lisse in the third tier of The Netherlands. His current status is unknown.
