Dutch defender Diego Michiels moved in February 2011 to Indonesia. The player from the Go Ahead youth academy joined the ambitious club were fellow Dutchman Jhon van Beukering was playing too. Michiels joined Pelita Jaya on a 3-year contract.

Michiels is from Indonesian ancestry and insisted in playing for their national team. During the naturalization process, he was capped for the U23 national team of Indonesia. After being naturalized, he made his debut for Indonesia in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification against Bahrain on February 29, 2012.

In 2012 he was loaned out to Arema Malang for a while. In November 2012 he was faced three months jail because of criminal assaults. In March 2013 he was released from jail. He continued his play at Mitra Kukar in Indonesia. In 2016 Michiels changed clubs and is playing at Pusamania Borneo in the Indonesia Soccer Championship A.

Michiels converted to Islam in 2013 and took the Islamic name Diego Muhammad bin Robbie Michiels.
