Reza Ghoochannejhad was born in Iran and moved at a young age to the Netherlands. He acquired the Dutch nationality and entered the Heerenveen youth academy. After making his first team debut at Heerenveen Reza played several times on loan before finally making his name at Cambuur Leeuwarden as talented forward. In summer 2011 he moved abroad signing a 3-year contract at Sint-Truidense VV in Belgium until June 2014.

His good performances attracted other clubs. In summer 2012 he agreed a 3,5 year deal with Belgian giants Standard de Liège starting from January 2013. In January 2014 he continued his career in England signing a contract until June 2016 at Charlton Athletic.

At the end of his contract he returned home signing a two year deal at SC Heerenveen until June 2018. With a Worldcup appearance in Russia, foreign clubs were interested to sign the Iran international. He moved on a two year contract to Cyprus club APOEL Nicosia.

Ghoochannejhad being born in Iran has chosen for the national team of Iran after playing several Holland U19 matches. He made his A-level international debut in September 2012 against Lebanon.
