Joop de Kubber played together with Bertus den Harder at French giants Girondins de Bordeaux in the 1950 years. Den Harder advised the club to get De Kubber from the Netherlands and the midfielder played from 1950 to 1956 in France. Afterwards he returned to Amsterdam to retire from professional football in 1961 at DWS. De Kubber died in 2002 at the age of 74.

Joop 'Jep' de Kubber almost became a Dutch A international. First were professional players not allowed to play for the national team according to FA rules. Later on, Dutch FA changed their rules and also De Kubber became available. In 1956 he was selected for the Dutch national team to replace Jan Klaassens. However after hearing that Klaassens became heavily sad, De Kubber rejected his selection in favour of Klaassens. That was his only chance to play for the A team but De Kubber played several matches for the Dutch Military team.
