Danny Hoesen is a product from the youth academy of Fortuna Sittard. He just made one senior appearance for Fortuna before moving abroad to the youth academy of Fulham in England in 2009. After playing matches in the reserves squad, he was allowed a loan transfer. From April to July 2010 he played on loan at Finnish HJK Helsinki. Because of a serious hip injury, he returned earlier back to London from his loan period. In the 2011-12 season he played a whole season on loan at his former club Fortuna Sittard. Never having played an official senior match at Fulham, many clubs are interested to sign the youngster after a successful 2011-12 season. He was still under contract at Fulham until June 2013.

In summer 2012, Ajax made a surprising signing with striker Hoesen from England. Fulham sold the youngster on a 3 year deal. In mid-season 2013-14, he joined Greek club PAOK on loan until summer 2014.

In summer 2014 he left Ajax and signed a 4-year contract at FC Groningen. He changed clubs with Richairo Zivkovic who went to Amsterdam. In January 2017 Hoesen made another foreign move. Having minimal opportunities at FC Groningen, he decided to join the MLS competition in the USA. In the 2017 season he signed a loan contract at San Jose Earthquakes. The season was successful and the US club decided to sign the forward on a permanent deal in the 2018 season.
