Dutchman Sidney Schmeltz signed a two-year contract with Oldham Athletic in June 2013. Schmeltz became a free agent when Veendam filed for bankruptcy in March 2013.

In January 2014, Schmeltz moved on a loan deal to League One club Shrewsbury Town for the rest of the season. After a month he was send back to Oldham who decided to release Schmeltz from his contract.

Schmeltz signed a short-term deal at Hartlepool United at the end of October and went on to make seven appearances for the Club, three of them from the substitutesí bench. His deal expired at the end of December 2014. In January 2015 he moved to Egypt to play for Petrojet. At the end of the season his contract ended.

Sidney Schmeltz returned to amateur football and started playing at Magreb 90 in December 2015. In September 2016 Schmeltz moved abroad again on a free transfer and signed at Al-Ahli from Bahrain. In 2017 he continued at Sitra Club. In January 2018, Schmeltz returned to his former club Magreb 90 acting in the Derde Divisie (fourth tier). At the end of the season the club relegated to a lower amateurlevel and he retired from semi-professional football.
