Platje made a surprising move in summer 2013 when signing a 2-year contract at Neftchi Baku in Azerbeidzjan. In mid-season 2013-14 he moved on a loan transfer to Swedish outfit Kalmar FF.

Melvin Platje returned home in September 2014 to sign a contract at VVV Venlo on a free transfer. His contract at Baku was cancelled in mutual consent.

At 23th July 2015 Platje signed a two-year deal at Stade Brest, the club that competes in the French Ligue 2.

At 1 February 2016 Stade Brest terminated the contract with Platje. A few hours later Platje signed a contract for 1,5 season at 3rd Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock. In January 2017 his contract was terminated and he left Germany. He managed to play for 30 matches in 2016 making 5 goals but that was not sufficient to stay for the rest of his contract in June 2017.

In February 2017 he found himself a new club and signed for Belgian side Lommel United until the end of the season. In the 2017-18 season, Platje was playing at Telstar and became their top scorer. This attracted interest from abroad and he went for another adventure. Indonesian side Bali United signed the forward for their 2018/19 campaign.
