Ajax forward Gino van Kessel moved abroad in summer 2013. He signed a season on loan at Slovakian club AS Trencin until June 2014. The previous season he also played on loan at Almere City. In summer 2014 he was released from his contract in Amsterdam and moved to France to sign for Ligue 2 club Avignon on a 2-year deal. In December 2014, the club and Van Kessel agreed to cancel the contract. He returned to his former club Trencin for the second half of the season. At the end of the season he has won the Slovakian cup and signed a new contract until 2018.

In July 2016 Van Kessel moved to Czech Republican club Slavia Prague for a transfer fee of 1.2ME. Van Kessel signed a 3-year contract at the club from the capital of Czech Republic. In February 2017 he was loaned out to Polish club Legia Gdansk for the rest of the season. His loan continued in the 2017-18 season for League One club Oxford United. Van Kessel moved in August 2018 on a free transfer to Roeselare in Belgium on a season deal. In 2019 he returned to his former club in Slovakia.
