Tjaronn Chery left FC Groningen after winning the KNVB Cup in 2015 for QPR, just relegated from the Premier League. Chery signed a 3-year deal. The fee that was paid for Chery was not published, but Chery had a limited transfer amount in his contract at FC Groningen.

Chery immediately made impact with his new club and was in his first season awarded player of the season by the supporters of the English club. In January 2017 however he was offered an interesting deal in China. He moved to China to sign for GZ H. Zhicheng in the Super League with a fee around the 5ME. He signed a contract until December 2019. In his final contract year, the Chinese club sent him on loan to Turkish club Kayserispor until June 2019.
