Born in Rotterdam, Ricky van Haaren did play for two out of three clubs from Rotterdam as a youth player. He made his professional debut for Feyenoord in 2010. Five years later he decided it was time to move abroad when he signed for Dinamo Bucharest. The Dutch midfielder signed for two years at the club from the Romanian capital.

In December 2015 Dinamo Bucharest and Van Haaren decided to cancel his contract. At the 1st of February 2016 Van Haaren signed a 1,5 year contract at Turkish second league team Sanlıurfaspor.

Van Haaren returned to The Netherlands when he signed a one-year contract at his former club FC Dordrecht. In July 2017, he moved abroad to Slovakia. He signed a contract until the end of the year at AS Trencin. In January 2018 he changed to Slovan Bratislava on a contract until June 2020.
